Dental crowns are one of the most common dental treatments offered by Dr. Nicholas Gardner in our Gouverneur, NY dentist office. Recommended for both cosmetic and restorative purposes, a dental crown can provide a natural looking, lasting result.
Dr. Gardner may recommend a dental crown for a wide range of dental concerns:
- Damaged teeth
- After a root canal procedure
- Misshapen teeth
- Discolored teeth
- Support a dental appliance such as a dental bridge
Dental crowns can be made from a variety of materials. Dr. Gardner will recommend the most appropriate option based on your oral health and the location of the affected tooth. In most cases, he will recommend using a porcelain crown for both aesthetics and durability. Your custom dental crown will either be sent to our trusted dental lab, DAL Signature, or fabricated in our office using CAD/CAM technology.
Dental Crowns: What To Expect
A dental crown is often a multi step process, beginning with impressions of your teeth to be used in the fabrication of a custom fit and color matched dental crown. Dr. Gardner will prepare your tooth’s surface by removing a small amount of tissue in order to place the crown snugly and comfortably.
A temporary dental crown will be placed at this visit while a dental lab makes your custom restoration. Once complete, in about 2 weeks time, you will return to our dentist office for placement of our custom dental crown.
Dr. Gardner will make any necessary adjustments for fit and comfort before permanently attaching it to your natural tooth. With proper dental care and good oral hygiene, your dental crown will last a lifetime.
